Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality
Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality for always-on railway maintenance.
SITAV integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) into its maintenance processes to make every activity on locomotives, coaches, high-speed trains, trams and metro vehicles safer, faster and more accurate. In line with our commitment to innovation and rail safety, we put advanced digital tools directly in the hands of technicians, engineers and trainers.
Using smart glasses and mobile devices, Augmented Reality overlays the railway vehicle with guided procedures, technical diagrams, interactive manuals and dynamic checklists, reducing errors and standardizing operations. AI models analyze operating data, fault history and onboard parameters in real time, supporting staff in rapid anomaly diagnosis and in selecting the most effective intervention strategy.
The system developed by SITAV is designed to cover the entire maintenance and technical support lifecycle:
- Assisted railway maintenance: step-by-step AR procedures, automatic validation of completed tasks and full traceability of interventions.
- Troubleshooting on railway vehicles: diagnostic AI that suggests the most likely causes of an anomaly, based on symptoms, error codes and fleet history.
- Fault resolution: operational guidance in Augmented Reality, with optimized verification and repair workflows up to full vehicle restoration.
- Engineering support: immediate access to field data, reports, trends and onboard logs for advanced analysis, continuous improvement and predictive maintenance.
- Training support: immersive scenarios and AR simulators to train new technicians and update experienced staff on new technologies and procedures.
All information collected in the field flows into the SITAV management system and into a dedicated fleet management control room, designed to provide a single view of vehicle status, maintenance scheduling, reliability and availability KPIs, and critical alarms. In this way, operational and strategic decisions are based on objective data, updated in real time and consistent with what happens in the workshop and on the line.
With this integrated AI and Augmented Reality platform, SITAV strengthens its role as a technology partner for leading railway operators, helping to reduce downtime, increase fleet reliability and ensure even safer, more comfortable journeys for passengers.
